About this Compound
5-Amino-1MQ (5-amino-1-methylquinolinium) is a membrane-permeable inhibitor of nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT), an enzyme highly expressed in adipose tissue that consumes the NAD+ precursor nicotinamide. By blocking NNMT, the compound is studied for its ability to raise cellular NAD+ and shift adipocyte energy metabolism.
Proposed Mechanism
Preclinical reports describe increased intracellular NAD+ and SAM, reduced lipogenesis in adipocytes, and decreased diet-induced fat mass in rodent models without reported changes in food intake. It is frequently studied alongside direct NAD+ precursors as a complementary pathway.
